This is Madeline’s half of the medallion thought-share with Frixx.
Maddy then looks at Frixx “I am sorry Frixx. After so much that has happened, it is hard for me to trust. But I think there is a lot of that going around now, but at least I know you have the best of intentions, even if you have an odd way of going about them. While you may have my trust, you may have to put that intention into practice from the others, especially Dov, Primrose and Adlyn.”
“You remarked at my temper and recklessness in the past, the events we have placed ourselves in have torn open old wounds I have tried to put behind me. But I am not the only one; I know they may not show it, there are others in the party that the castle has left lasting marks. Just as you have let me understand your reasonings, I would like to show you my own; hopefully it’ll give you some insight into what motivates me”
The reading is much more chaotic, thoughts are more emotionally anchored and abstracted. Maddy’s mind isn’t as accustomed to sharing memories as a Gnome.
Throughout the thought reading you get the feeling that she is holding back a very potent thought/feeling, but not with the intention of hiding them. You are guided at first through surface thoughts and memory, as if stretching before delving into deeper ones.
Quick flashes of happy thoughts,
-Playing with Adlyn and Primrose as young children.
-Quiet times with her family and a playful moment with her niece and nephew.
-Drinking with her Darklighters.
You then feel emotions of happiness, pride and accomplishment. You see an 18 year-old maddy in a dress uniform in a crowded hall hugging Adlyn and excitedly talking (who is in a different style dress uniform) It seems to be some sort of celebratory event, possibly some sort of military event. You see Maddy give a look to her mother, who is proud but is trying to hide a hint of sadness/dissapointement in her expression.
Her mind shifts to her bow. Images of sucessful Darklighter operations, her practicing through various points in her life. Feelings of confidence and peace of mind flow through those events. The last image is of Marcus showing her how he shoots and arrow as Maddy mimics him as he practices. Feelings of sadness and shame begin to encroach.
Thought shifts to a 13-year old Maddy at some sort of festival event in Picadilly, slumped over sobbing holding her bow.
You then see through the tear filled eyes of a teenage Maddy, she is wearing a very fancy dress, marred with food stains. You feel the spilled alcohol from the bottle she is holding sting the cuts and bruises on her knuckles. Under her rolled up sleeve you see her scarred left arm and green flame tattoos. It is night and you see she is alone at the graves of her father and brother. Through the drunkeness there are strong emotions of anger, lonliness and resentment. She yells angrily at the graves as she kicks over the flowers and throws the empty wine bottle at the headstone. You shift to later in the same memory where an emotionally exhausted, weeping Maddy is being comforted by Adyln.
Feelings of guilt come to the forefront as she switches to another thought, becoming more chaotic and less clear, she is beginning to lose control of which thoughts appear.
Image of the new, bodyless memorial to Marcus. Then it switches to the old party convincing Marcus and Albrecht to leave. A Image of Albrecht appears and then switches to Val and again into an image of green flames.
Green flames then overwhelm her thoughts. Feelings of terror and helplessness saturate this memory. You feel her try and control this memory, but is failing. Things seem more abstract, figures and shapes take a bit of concentration to discern their identity. You see a 5 year-old Maddy forced from her hiding spot by the inferno. Intense pain grips her left arm as she sees it on fire. In a panic she tries to quell the flames and realizes with all the fire and smoke, she doesn’t know where she is. Her arm is then smothered by a cloak as she is quickly picked up by a figure you feel is her father; he then carries her to the rest of the remainder of the royal retinue, including a terrified Adlyn. He then says something you cannot hear to Maddy and then hugs her.. He then hands her off to one of the guard, giving him an order as he runs back into the hall. Maddy sees this and cries for him to not leave her, trying to get out of the guards grasp. You see an image of a pleading Maddy rushed out of the burning castle.
You then see the percieved betrayal of Frixx at the wierd kings castle, you feel a distant deep rage, but is now being tempered with other feelings. You see Maddy’s fear of the Weird King, focusing the scarred side of his face as well as his speaking about the “arrangement” he and Godric had.
You then see a flashes of memory, the feelings flow from suspicion to guilt and then anger
-King Godric and his half mask
-The hidden room with the necklaces, focusing on the baby clothes and the dresses.
-The passage in the book from Menander about “Half a maiden’s life”
-more images of the green flame rip through the castle.
You feel a slight bit of panic from Maddy as she struggles to gain control of her flow of thought, as if trying to stop from proceeding to the next one. You see a torrent of green flame that reveals a slumped over Godric. You feel a potent mix of anger, righteousness, sorrow and guilt. You see an arrow embedded in his chest as the Levellan signet ring is thrown at his feet. You then look back and see Maddy holding her bow with a cold expression across her face with streaks of tears in her eyes.
You then see a intense flash of the face of an enraged teenage Maddy as you are pushed back out of her thoughts and back into the chapel.
